Tuesday 15 June 2010

Niger was granted funds to construct its section of the Trans-Sahara highway linking “Arlit with “Asamaki” on 223 km. The project is worth 80 million dollars and will be funded by international financial institutions including Islamic Bank for Development, African Bank for Development and Kuwaiti Fund for development. The Niger section will complete the Trans-Sahara highway that runs from Algeria in North Africa to Nigeria in the south west of the continent on the Atlantic Ocean. The construction is expected to start in 2011. The project is designed to ease trade route and improve exchange among African countries and with the European Union through Algeria in the North.
